The House on a Ridge proposal by Son Architecture for a site in Żebbuġ, Gozo, responds sensitively to its dramatic surroundings while honouring local architectural traditions. Approved in 2020 but yet to be built, the design transforms an unfinished 2015 structure, integrating the existing basement as a base that connects the house to the landscape, evoking timelessness. The slender colonnade of local stone rises above the basement, enhancing the connection between architecture and nature while reflecting the region’s cultural context. The façade features projecting balconies that frame valley views, drawing from traditional Gozitan homes and merging contemporary design with local heritage. The house is set back to respect the valley’s topography, ensuring it coexists harmoniously with its surroundings.
